A man known as Success has reportedly died from injuries he got after being beaten by some officers of the So-Safe Corps in Ogun State. This incident happened along Coca-Cola Road in the Oju-Ore area.

PUNCH Metro found out on Monday through a Facebook post by Ota Gossip that the trouble started after a fight between Success and his mother on Saturday.

The post said Success’s mother called the So-Safe officials, who then took him into their custody. Instead of taking him to the police, they allegedly took him to an unfinished building and tortured him.

The post added, “According to reports from the community, the problem started after a misunderstanding between Success, his mother, and his younger brother at home. During the fight, Success reportedly got a head injury and was seen bleeding.

“After his mother called, the So-Safe security officers were brought in to help. Eyewitness accounts and videos shared online show that the young man was later taken away from the area.

“However, community members claim that instead of being taken to the police station, he was taken to an abandoned building in Oju-Ore, where he was physically attacked.”

Another Facebook user, Temitope Adeniyi, said that the security officers allegedly beat Success to death. “He had a fight with his mother, so she reported him to So-Safe. The next thing, they took him to an unfinished building and beat him to death,” Adeniyi wrote.

On Monday, the spokesperson for the So-Safe Corps, Adegunwa Adegbuyi, confirmed the incident in a phone call. He said the officers involved have been handed over to the police.

Adegbuyi condemned the officers' actions, saying they went against the rules of the organization. “The mother called us to intervene, and some of our ad-hoc staff went. They are supposed to report back, but sadly, they took the law into their own hands.

“As soon as we learned about the case, we handed them over to the Nigerian Police Force because our Commandant does not allow any form of human rights abuse.

“We handed over the first officer, and after a few hours, we handed over the second officer to the police for prosecution. We are working closely with the police to make sure justice is served,” Adegbuyi said.

He added that the So-Safe Commander, Soji Ganzalo, has often warned officers against abusing human rights and getting involved in civil issues.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, has not yet replied to a request for comments on this matter as of the time of writing this report.
