Ethan Mbappe made up for his red card in the Champions League by scoring a late goal in a 2-0 win over Troyes on Sunday. This victory moved Lille to the top of Ligue 1.
Mbappe is the younger brother of Kylian, who plays for France and Real Madrid. He was sent off during Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Real Betis at home for elbowing an opponent.
The 19-year-old left that incident behind him. He came off the bench against Troyes and scored in stoppage time, after Tiago Santos, a Portuguese full-back, had given Lille the lead in the first half.
Mbappe celebrated his first goal since December quietly. He apologized to supporters for his red card, but his goal was enough to lift Lille above Monaco and Rennes on goal difference at the top of the table.
Lille has taken 10 points from 12 possible under their new coach Davide Ancelotti. He is the son of Carlo Ancelotti, the current Brazil coach.
