Nigeria forward Terem Moffi is aiming to secure a steady position in Nigeria’s starting lineup. He believes that only consistent performance can help a striker earn a regular spot in one of Africa’s toughest attacking teams, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Moffi made this statement after a successful May. He won two titles in a row, first with FC Porto in the Portuguese Primeira Liga and then by helping the Super Eagles keep the Unity Cup. They won 3-0 against Jamaica in the final at The Valley in London.
“It feels great winning a title again,” Moffi said after they received the trophy.
“My first one was two weeks ago, and another one today. I feel really proud of myself and the team.”
The 27-year-old captain led a rotated Super Eagles side that included many players from the Nigeria Premier Football League during the Unity Cup. He scored an important goal in the final against Jamaica.
But even with his recent success, Moffi was clear about his position in the national team. With Victor Osimhen firmly the top striker for Nigeria, Moffi knows that every player must perform at their best to earn a spot.
“Of course, you always have to look at ways to improve. I am not at my best; I have to be at a better level,” he said.
“If you want to play for the Super Eagles, we all know we have top strikers, so you have to be at your best continuously.”
Moffi’s comeback at Porto is impressive, especially after a tough time at OGC Nice. There, he had a well-known issue with the fans, which led to him leaving on loan.
His recent successes will surely help his case as the Super Eagles look ahead to a busy international calendar. They are preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
