Nigeria’s D’Tigress faced their second loss in a row at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup. They lost 67-71 to Hungary in Berlin on Saturday.
D’Tigress were looking for their first win after falling 81-99 to South Korea. They had a tough time after a slow start as Hungary took an early lead.
Hungary led 21-13 at the end of the first quarter. They kept their lead in the second quarter, finishing the half 36-26.
By the end of the third quarter, Nigeria was still down by 10 points. Hungary was ahead 52-42 as they headed into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, D’Tigress fought back, outscoring Hungary 25-19. Their late comeback brought them closer, but it was not enough to win as Hungary held on to win by four points.
Amy Okonkwo was Nigeria’s top scorer with 17 points, six rebounds, and two assists in 29:46 minutes. Ezinne Kalu added 11 points, three rebounds, and a game-high nine assists in 35:51 minutes.
Efe Balogun scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, and had three assists. Victoria Macaulay also contributed 11 points in just 17:04 minutes off the bench.
Murjanatu Musa chipped in with 10 points, four rebounds, and one assist in 29:29 minutes.
This loss means D’Tigress are still looking for their first win in the tournament after two matches.
Their second defeat follows the 81-99 loss to South Korea, where Okonkwo scored 22 points, had seven rebounds, and three assists.
Against South Korea, Nigeria remained competitive for much of the game but struggled to control their opponent’s attack.
The match against Hungary was much closer, with D’Tigress showing more fight after starting slowly.
Now, Nigeria must regroup for their upcoming games in the World Cup, having failed to turn their fourth-quarter effort into a win against Hungary.
