The Nigerian Democratic Congress candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives election on January 16, 2027, Efosa Omo-Osagie, has promised to introduce a bill to stop sending National Youth Service Corps members to states and communities facing terrorism and banditry.
Omo-Osagie, who is also known as Mighty Man, stated that the new law would punish officials who send corps members to insecure areas, even when there are security warnings in place.
He shared this promise while presenting his 15-point legislative agenda during meetings with NDC supporters, party leaders, support group coordinators, strategists, women and youth leaders, and religious groups in Edo State and Abuja.
"Among other things, I am seriously considering a bill to prohibit posting of NYSC corps members to states or parts of the federation under terrorists and bandits occupation or threats," he said.
His agenda is divided into six main areas, including infrastructure, reducing governance costs, economic empowerment, fighting corruption, healthcare, and education.
While speaking to the crowd, Omo-Osagie criticized spending public money on maintaining offices and programs for the spouses and children of elected officials.
For infrastructure, he proposed a bill that would require firefighting equipment, boreholes, solar panels, and police desks to be set up in public markets across Nigeria.
On reducing the cost of governance, the NDC candidate promised to sponsor bills that would stop pensions and other benefits for elected officials after their tenure, except for former presidents and vice-presidents.
Omo-Osagie said that he would focus his first term in the National Assembly on pushing these bills for the good of his constituency, Edo State, and the whole country.
"Nigeria cannot continue like this. Sometimes we’ve got to say enough is enough, and I think this is the time," he declared.
The consultations began in Benin City and moved to Abuja. They are meant to set the stage for forming his campaign council, which he plans to announce soon.
This meeting comes just a week after The PUNCH reported that a Federal High Court in Benin City removed the previous NDC candidate, Uyi Omosigho, and confirmed Omo-Osagie as the legitimate candidate for the party.
The ruling, which happened on October 27, 2026, was the result of a legal dispute involving various candidates.
