Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has hurt his ankle ligament. This is a big blow for Beşiktaş as they prepare for their UEFA Europa League second qualifying round match against Danish team Midtjylland.
The Turkish club announced the injury in a statement on Tuesday after Ndidi had medical checks at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital.
The club said an MRI scan showed ligament damage in Ndidi’s ankle. Treatment has already started under the care of Beşiktaş’s medical team.
In their statement, the club mentioned: "Following an ankle injury, our player Wilfred Ndidi underwent an MRI at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital, which revealed a ligament injury in his ankle. Our medical team has started treatment for the player."
Beşiktaş did not say how serious the injury is or how long it will take for the 29-year-old to recover. This raises doubts about his availability for the Europa League match against Midtjylland.
This injury is a big worry for the new manager Vincenzo Italiano. He needs one of his best midfielders as the Turkish team starts its European journey.
Ndidi joined the Istanbul club last summer and quickly became an important player in midfield. His strong performances, smart play, and steady form made him one of Beşiktaş’s best players during the 2025/26 season.
The former Leicester City player received a lot of praise for his hard work, strong defense, and leadership. These traits also support his role as captain of Nigeria’s senior national team.
This latest injury might bring more uncertainty about Ndidi’s future, especially with transfer talks heating up.
