New Emir of Zurmi Appointed by Governor Lawal

The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has named Aminu Atiku as the new Emir and Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi of the Zurmi Emirate Council.

The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Mr Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, shared the news. He said the appointment was made after proper consultations and based on the recommendations from the Kingmakers of the Zurmi Emirate Council. This follows the traditions, customs, and laws of the State.

Aminu Atiku becomes the 21st Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, taking over from His Royal Highness, Alhaji Bello Suleiman, who died on 31 August 2026.

Alhaji Aminu Atiku, who is also known as Dangaladiman Zurmi, is the eldest son of the late Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the 19th Emir of Zurmi. He has served as the Sole Administrator of the Zurmi Local Government Council before this appointment.

Governor Lawal congratulated the new Emir and encouraged him to continue the legacy of his predecessors. He urged him to provide leadership that focuses on peace, justice, unity, and the welfare of the people.

The Governor highlighted that the Zurmi Emirate, established long ago by the Alibawa clan, holds a significant place in Zamfara's history. It has a rich heritage of scholarship, justice, and community service.

He also urged the new Emir to promote unity and peaceful living among the different communities in the Emirate. The Governor asked him to work closely with the government and security agencies to strengthen peace and security in the area.

Governor Lawal assured the new Emir that the State Government will support him. He expressed confidence that Aminu Atiku's reign would greatly help in achieving peace, stability, and development in the Zurmi Emirate and Zamfara State as a whole.
