Niger Army Saves 22 Kidnap Victims in Muchiya

Troops of the Nigerian Army have saved 22 people from kidnappers in Muchiya village, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 18 Brigade, Adebayo Adewumi, shared this in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr Adewumi mentioned that the rescue took place on 15 September after the troops of 18 Brigade Garrison and 45 Battalion got information about terrorists gathering in the area.

He explained that the soldiers launched a patrol, and the terrorists ran away into the nearby forest when they saw the approaching troops.

“The determined troops continued to chase the terrorists along their escape routes. As a result, troops rescued 22 kidnapped victims and recovered three motorcycles and other items left behind by the fleeing terrorists,” he said.

He added that the rescued individuals were handed over to the leaders of Muchiya community and reunited with their families.

One of the victims, named Alhaji Hassan, was injured during his captivity. He was taken to a clinic and is responding well to treatment.

Mr Adewumi praised the brigade commander for the troops' hard work. He encouraged them to keep carrying out operations against criminals in the area.

The commander also assured the people of Muchiya and nearby communities that the army is dedicated to protecting lives and property. He urged them to share any information they have about criminal activities.

This rescue happens as attacks and kidnappings continue in various parts of Niger State.
