Nigeria is looking to bounce back when they play against Nigeria A in the Nigeria T20 Quadrangular Series. The match is set for today at the TBS Cricket Oval in Lagos, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
After three matches, Nigeria A is still unbeaten. They have won all three games, earning six points and a net run rate of +1.718.
Both Nigeria and Sierra Leone have three points each. Meanwhile, Ghana has not yet scored any points.
Match five would have allowed Nigeria to catch up with Nigeria A, but their game against Sierra Leone was rained out. Nigeria A took advantage of this by winning against Ghana with eight wickets.
In their first meeting, Nigeria lost to Nigeria A by 19 runs. Now, they hope to fix that in today’s match.
Nigeria A scored 139 runs for eight wickets, then held Nigeria to 120 runs for seven wickets in their 20 overs. Sylvester Okpe was a standout, hitting 17 runs off just eight balls, including two fours and a six. Bright Edem also contributed with 25 runs off 22 balls.
Captain Mohammed Taiwo finished strong, scoring an unbeaten 18 runs from six balls, with one four and two sixes. This helped Nigeria A reach a good total.
If Nigeria wins today, they will cut the gap between them and Nigeria A to just one point. Each team has two matches left in the series.
Both teams have a mix of national players and rising stars as Nigeria prepares for the 2028 T20 World Cup qualifiers next month.
The Yellow Greens are using this quadrangular series to get ready for upcoming international matches. The 2028 T20 World Cup Africa Sub-Regional C Qualifier will take place in Abuja from October 18 to 25.
The national team has been training under their new high-performance manager Stephen Mangongo. He was announced in May after signing a three-year deal with the Nigeria Cricket Federation.
Mangongo took over from Kenyan coach Steve Tikolo, who left the position earlier this year after more than three years.
