Nigeria’s postal revenue shot up by 166.8 percent to N8.1 billion in 2025, up from N3.1 billion a year earlier. This information comes from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report released on Thursday. The report also shared that the postal network handled over 18.2 million mail items during the year.
The NBS published these details in its Postal Services Data for 2025. The report showed that the total number of post offices and postal agencies stayed the same at 2,048.
According to the report, Nigeria has 730 post offices or departments, 110 head post offices, 667 post shops, 201 postal agencies, 136 counter extensions, 115 branch offices, and 89 sub-post offices.
In total, 18.2 million postal articles were managed across both domestic and international routes last year. Domestic mail made up the biggest chunk, accounting for 68.7 percent or 12.5 million articles.
During the year, 248,966 mail items were sent abroad. Meanwhile, 5.5 million articles were received from other countries and delivered within Nigeria. Domestic postal services continued to handle most of the postal traffic, but international mail still played an important role.
The data shows that postal services earned significantly more money without expanding physical infrastructure. This suggests that existing facilities and services are being used more effectively.
The numbers also highlight how postal services are still important for communication, business, and logistics in Nigeria. Millions of mail articles were moved through the network last year.
These latest figures reflect better performance in Nigeria’s postal sector, thanks to rising revenue and ongoing mail handling activities. Even as digital communication grows, the amount of mail processed in 2025 shows that postal services are still a key part of the country’s communication and delivery system.
