Nigeria’s Stallions kicked off their campaign at the Africa Men’s Sevens Series in Kampala, Uganda, with a strong 28-5 win against Ghana on Saturday.
This information came from a statement released by the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) on Saturday in Abuja.
The federation noted that the Stallions began the match with high energy and constant pressure, preventing their opponents from getting comfortable.
"From the opening whistle, the Stallions came out firing, bringing intensity, pace and relentless pressure to the contest," the statement said.
Nigeria's determination eventually led to points as the team kept up its control to secure a solid win.
"The Stallions’ persistence eventually paid off as they converted their dominance into points, producing a high-octane performance that saw them run out comfortable winners," the NRFF added.
This win gives Nigeria a good start as they continue their journey in the Kampala tournament.
Next, the Stallions will play Morocco in their upcoming Pool A match.
The statement mentioned that Morocco will come into this match looking to bounce back after losing 19-12 to Zimbabwe in their first game.
Nigeria will be aiming for another win before their last group match against Zimbabwe.
In other Saturday matches, Zambia beat Tunisia 10-7, while hosts Uganda secured a 38-0 win over Senegal.
The Kampala tournament has eight African nations competing for a spot in the 2027 World Rugby HSBC SVNS 3.
Nigeria is in Pool A with Zimbabwe, Ghana and Morocco, while Pool B includes Uganda, Zambia, Tunisia and Senegal.
The NRFF stated that the Stallions will now focus on their match against Morocco as they aim to build on their opening win.
