The Badminton Federation of Nigeria has opened applications for national coaching positions. Interested candidates can apply until June 30, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The BFN is looking to hire permanent coaches after using acting coaches for the senior national team and temporary coaches for other tasks.

The available roles include Head Coach, Assistant Coach I, and Assistant Coach II for the senior national team, junior national team, and para-badminton team.

In a nationwide call for applications, the federation said it wants dynamic, experienced, and result-driven coaches. They aim to develop badminton at all levels and improve Nigeria's competitiveness worldwide.

“To be eligible, applicants must have a coaching certification recognized by the Badminton World Federation, the Badminton Confederation of Africa, or a higher qualification. Candidates should also have experience representing Nigeria or a state at national competitions. Coaching experience at either level is a plus,” the federation stated.

“Other requirements include computer skills, strong communication and mentoring abilities, analytical skills, planning competence, flexibility, and a commitment to professional ethics. Applicants must not be older than 55 years when applying.”

The federation mentioned that successful candidates will be key in finding talent, developing players, preparing for competitions, and managing the team overall.

Coaches will need to create and implement training programs, enhance players' skills, analyze performance, and prepare athletes for local and international events.

BFN added that national coaches should also act as mentors, disciplinarians, and role models. They will help build resilience, confidence, and professionalism among athletes.

The federation highlighted that coaches also have responsibilities in safety, ethics, administration, and the development of new coaches. This includes maintaining a good training environment, promoting sportsmanship, keeping accurate records, and supporting the growth of upcoming coaches.
