Coach Michael Taangahar has announced a 16-player team for Nigeria's Senior Women’s Handball National Team. They are set to compete in the first IHF Women’s Nations Trophy Africa Zone III. The tournament will take place from September 2 to 6, 2026, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The team has been training for several weeks at the Indoor Sports Hall in Package B of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. Taangahar has been working hard with the players to prepare them for the upcoming competition.
As part of their final preparations, the team will go to the Benin Republic for some friendly matches before they head to Ouagadougou. Nigeria will kick off their campaign against Ghana on Thursday, September 3. They will play against the host team, Burkina Faso, on Friday, September 4, in their second group match.
The selected 16 players are Bisi Oyewusi, Matthew Esther, Ahamefula Chinemerem, Sunday Hope, Ovetuo Rachael, Saaloo Daina, Audu Mercy, Emuore Enifome, Modebe Queen, Yusuf Toyin, Babatunde Taiwo, Ogbusimba Childera, Musa Sadiya, Nuhu Wuraola, Onyekwere Lucy, and Muhammad Bilkisu.
Taangahar will be supported by Innocent Chukwuma Nwankwo. Both of them are eager to lead the team to a great start in Burkina Faso.
