Nnadozie Encourages Support for Super Falcons After Tough Start

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has asked Nigerians to keep supporting the team after a tough beginning to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. She believes the 10-time champions will make the country proud, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nnadozie faced criticism after letting in three goals during Nigeria’s surprising 3-2 loss to Malawi in their first Group C match last Tuesday. But she bounced back with a clean sheet in Saturday’s important 1-0 win over Zambia.

This win came even though Nigeria had to play with just 10 players from the 40th minute after Tosin Demehin received a straight red card. The victory boosted the Falcons’ chances of reaching the quarter-finals and defending their title.

Speaking to Ademola TV in Pidgin, Nnadozie urged fans to support the team as they try to move forward in a tough group. “Naija, I just wan say make una calm down. I no know why una dey worry. Na we oh, 10 times champions.

We go make una proud. We be una sisters, when una sisters make mistake, una go beat am? Make una dey cheer us, make una support us,” the goalkeeper said.

“I just want to assure the fans that we are capable of fighting this battle and that is why we are 10 times champions. We will make Nigerians proud and we are your sisters. You just have to bear with us through thick and thin and give us all the support.”

The Falcons felt the pressure to respond after their loss to Malawi. The Malawian team surprised Nigeria with goals from Temwa Chawinga and Tabitha Chawinga, leading to the 3-2 win.

This result left Nigeria with three points from two games, tied with Zambia but behind them on goal difference. Malawi is leading Group C with six points after beating Egypt, who have no points yet.

The Falcons will face Egypt on Wednesday, knowing they must win convincingly to keep their hopes alive for the knockout stage. They also need the result of the match between Malawi and Zambia to favor them.

Nnadozie, who was very upset after the first match, is a three-time CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. She may win another award this year when the CAF Awards come back to Nigeria.
