Nollywood's faith-based film, Agbara Nla: The Return, has made about N71m from single-day preview screenings before its official release.

Nigerian Box Office (@NGAboxoffice), a platform that analyzes box office data in Nigeria, reported that the film earned N70m from 12,134 tickets sold during its preview period from September 25 to October 1.

This performance marks the highest single-day preview earnings ever recorded in West Africa, making Agbara Nla the top film for that period.

The report also stated that the film's 12,134 ticket sales are the largest first-day admissions recorded in 2026. Its N70m earnings are the highest first-day gross for any Nollywood film.

The film also achieved the biggest single-day gross for October, according to the report.

The Nile Entertainment, which distributed the film, previously announced that Agbara Nla: The Return set the record for the highest first-day gross for a Nollywood film and for a faith-based film.

The distributor said, "From the biggest first-day gross for a Nollywood title to the biggest faith-based opener of all time, the biggest single-day previews in West Africa (₦71M+), and the #1 movie of the week.

The Legend didn’t just return. It roared back. And now, ₦71M+ and counting.

This is the power of a story that never truly left us. This is cinema coming together for a moment that will be remembered."

The distributor confirmed that the film's single-day preview earnings have surpassed N71m.

Agbara Nla: The Return is now showing in cinemas across the country, 33 years after the original film was released.

This film is a modern take on the classic Agbara Nla, which first came out in 1993.

The original film was created by Christian filmmaker Mike Bamiloye and was later released in English as The Ultimate Power in 1994.

The new version revisits the story of Muwonleru, a village under the influence of the powerful herbalist Isawuru.

Two believers, Olaboye and Olatomi, leave their urban lives to bring the Christian message to the village, resulting in a clash between their faith and Isawuru’s spiritual power.

Mike Bamiloye returns as Isawuru, while Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye directed the new film.

The cast includes Aanu Kolade Abiodun, Remilekun Mosiko, Philip Olubakin, Gloria Mike-Bamiloye, and David Kola Okeowo.
