The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have ended their strike. This comes after they reached a deal with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
The unions started the strike to protest the NUPRC's failure to address their concerns. These concerns included welfare, working conditions, and better communication with stakeholders in the oil and gas industry.
Both unions thanked the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources. The minister helped with the talks that led to solving these issues.
The unions promised to protect their members' interests. They also plan to keep talking with the NUPRC to improve their working relationship.
They called on the commission to focus on the workers' welfare. They want to make sure that such problems do not happen again in the future.
Now that the strike is over, work in the oil and gas sector is expected to get back to normal. Both unions have asked their members to return to work right away.
