Former Super Eagles defender Godwin Okpara has shown support for Victor Osimhen’s possible move to Paris Saint-Germain. He believes the Nigerian striker will do well at the French club and help them stay on top in European football.

Osimhen has become a hot target for many clubs in Europe this summer. He had a great season with Galatasaray, scoring 22 goals and giving six assists. This helped the Turkish club win the Super Lig.

In two seasons at Rams Park, he has scored 59 goals and assisted 16 times in 74 matches.

PSG has won the UEFA Champions League titles back-to-back and is now eyeing the 27-year-old player. They want to add a natural striker to their team. Okpara, who has played for PSG, thinks the move is good for both sides.

“It will make them stronger. For him, going to PSG, he knows he has played in the French league and knows how everything goes,” Okpara said in an interview with Footy Africa.

“It is a wonderful team for him, and it is a team that wants to win everything. It is a winning team.”

Okpara also reminded people of Osimhen’s past time in France. He scored 18 goals and provided five assists in just one season with Lille. This shows he can fit in and do well in Paris.

“I know next year they will be planning to win the Champions League again. So I think, why not? PSG might be in that shoe too. So for him, going to PSG, it will be a very good thing for Osimhen and for Nigeria as a whole,” the 53-year-old added.

Atletico Madrid is also in the running for Osimhen. Reports say the Spanish club has already talked about a possible transfer, and Osimhen is open to a move to La Liga.

Atletico’s interest comes from uncertainty around Julian Alvarez, who is linked with a move to Arsenal. Barcelona had wanted Alvarez but backed off due to his €100m price tag.

Galatasaray wants at least €100m for Osimhen, and Atletico might pay that amount if Alvarez leaves. A transfer to Madrid would also bring Osimhen together with Super Eagles teammate Ademola Lookman, who joined Atletico in January.

On the other hand, sources close to Osimhen say he will only leave Galatasaray if the club decides to sell him. He has recently downplayed rumors of leaving. Other clubs like Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Manchester United are also showing interest in him.

If PSG wins the competition for Osimhen, he could lead the team in the UEFA Super Cup final against Aston Villa on August 12.
