Olam Agri has stepped into the ruminant nutrition market with its new Tru Value cattle feed range. This move marks a big growth in its Integrated Feed & Protein (IFP) business. The launch adds to Olam Agri’s feed options, which already include poultry and aquaculture, making it a key player in livestock nutrition across Nigeria.
The Tru Value feed was introduced at an event in Nigeria. Olam Agri has a strong background in poultry and aquaculture feed production here. Nigeria is among Africa’s biggest livestock markets. There is a growing need for animal protein. This demand, along with efforts to boost herd productivity, opens up new chances for cattle farming. The launch event took place in Kaduna State. It saw the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, as well as other government officials, commercial farmers, industry stakeholders, development partners, distributors, and media representatives in attendance.
Sharad Gupta, President & Global Head of Integrated Feed & Protein at Olam Agri, described the launch as the beginning of a long-term plan. He said, "Our entry into ruminant nutrition marks an important milestone in the evolution of Olam Agri’s feed business. We have built strong capabilities serving poultry and aquaculture farmers, and we are now extending that expertise to support the development of more productive and sustainable cattle farming systems. Nigeria is the first market for this expansion, and we see significant opportunities to help livestock farmers improve performance, strengthen food security and create greater value across the beef and dairy value chains."
At the launch, Minister Idi Mukhtar Maiha praised the investment. He pointed out that nutrition is key for reforming the sector. He stated, "The transformation of Nigeria’s livestock sector begins with improving productivity at farm level. Quality animal nutrition remains one of the most important factors in achieving better growth rates, improved milk yields, and higher returns for our farmers. We commend Olam Agri for investing in innovative feed solutions that support the Federal Government’s commitment to building a modern, competitive, and sustainable livestock industry. Partnerships like this are critical to enhancing food security, increasing farmer incomes, and accelerating economic growth."
The Minister further explained that the government will keep working to create an environment that brings in private sector investments and innovations in the livestock value chain.
The Tru Value range has three products. Tru Value Beef Pellet helps with weight gain and faster fattening. Tru Value Beef Plus Pellet is designed for quick growth and better finishing. Tru Value Dairy Pellet aims to increase milk yield and overall herd performance. All three products come from thorough research and nutritional development. They provide consistent nutrition in every bag, which addresses two major issues farmers face with traditional feeding: inconsistency and unreliable supply.
Several farmers at the event shared how structured feeding improved their herds compared to traditional methods. Their experiences offered practical examples that complemented the technical talks.
By entering the ruminant nutrition market, Olam Agri is expanding its ability to provide livestock producers with science-based nutrition solutions for different species. The Tru Value launch in Nigeria is just the first step in the company’s broader goal to support more productive, sustainable, and profitable livestock systems through nutrition, expertise, and partnerships.
