Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, showed her support for the U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, during their final match against Japan at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

In a video shared on social media, the First Lady was seen cheering for the players from her home. She applauded their performance and was heard chanting, “Nigeria! Nigeria!” as the team fought hard against Japan for the trophy.

PUNCH Online reports that the Flamingos won the match 2-1 on Saturday, making history as the first African nation to lift the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

Awawu Bashiru scored the first goal in the 39th minute, followed by Oluebube Umejiaku who netted another in the 47th minute. This secured Nigeria’s victory at the Mohammed VI Football Complex.

Japan managed to score once in the 80th minute through Fuki Ito, but the Flamingos held on to secure their historic win.

With this victory, Nigeria becomes the first African country to win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in both men’s and women’s competitions.

The Flamingos also made history by being the first team to lose their opening match and still go on to win the title. They bounced back after a 2-1 defeat to Poland in the group stage.
