One dead, another hurt in youth clash in Jigawa

Tragedy hit Rahamanu Village in Aujara District, Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State. One person was killed and another seriously injured after a violent clash between youths late Wednesday night.

Eyewitnesses told our reporter that the fight caused chaos in the Fulani settlement. Residents ran to the scene after hearing shouts from the village center.

A resident, Audu Falalu, shared his experience in a phone interview. “We were at home around 11pm when we heard shouting from the center of the village. When we rushed there, we saw some youths fighting seriously. Two of them were already bleeding,” he said.

Another resident, Haruna Adamu, mentioned how the community quickly called security operatives to stop more violence. “The fight was very serious. We immediately called the NSCDC people in Aujara because we were afraid that more people would be killed. They came quickly,” he said.

Adamu added that security personnel and good Samaritans took the injured victims to the health center.

On Thursday night, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the incident and shared more details on Friday. He said the command got a distress call about the clash.

“On Wednesday, 23rd September 2026, at about 11:30pm, the NSCDC Aujara Divisional Office received a distress call from a member of the Fulani community reporting that some youths had engaged in a serious fight at Rahamanu Village, under Aujara District, Jahun Local Government Area,” he said.

Tijjani said personnel were quickly sent to the area after the distress call. “Two persons were found to have sustained serious injuries during the fight and were subsequently taken to the Primary Health Centre, Aujara, for medical attention,” he stated.

He revealed that one of the victims did not survive. “One of the victims, Umar Abdullahi, aged 20, of Rahamanu Fulani Settlement, unfortunately died while on admission at the health facility.

“The second victim, Sule Adamu, aged 19, of the same address, is currently responding to treatment,” Tijjani said.

Regarding the investigation, Tijjani said, “Preliminary investigation into the incident has commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the fight and identify all persons involved.”

He also mentioned that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the clash. “Two suspects were arrested by Police personnel attached to Aujara Division in connection with the incident for further investigation and possible prosecution.”

The NSCDC spokesman promised to keep the public updated as the investigation continues. “Further developments will be communicated as the investigation progresses.”

As of now, the cause of the clash has not been officially confirmed. Violence among youths in rural areas of northern Nigeria is becoming a serious concern, driven by unemployment, substance abuse, access to weapons, and the breakdown of traditional ways to resolve conflicts in some communities.

Jigawa State, in the North-West geopolitical zone, has mostly a rural population, including many Fulani herdsmen and farming communities. While the state has been more peaceful than some neighboring areas, incidents of youth violence and community clashes have occasionally disturbed its generally calm atmosphere.
