Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has addressed the rumors about his future at the Turkish club. This comes after Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle suggested that Osimhen might miss Nigeria’s upcoming friendlies against Poland and Portugal due to a possible summer transfer, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Chelle made this statement while explaining why Osimhen was not part of the squad for the two matches scheduled for this month.
Chelle said Osimhen was “maybe trying to change clubs,” but the Super Eagles media team has since clarified what the coach meant.
In an Instagram post, Osimhen also dismissed the rumors. He insisted that Chelle’s comments were taken out of context.
“I just got off the phone with Coach Eric Chelle regarding the comments about me in his recent interview,” Osimhen wrote.
“Unfortunately, his words have been taken out of context and blown out of proportion. He has great respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our games, and never intended to create any controversy.
“I appreciate the conversation, the opportunity to always represent my country, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.
“He is a great coach whom I respect a lot, and I kindly ask everyone to disregard the speculation surrounding this matter. Thank you for your consistent support.”
Before Chelle’s comments, Osimhen was already linked with a possible move away from Galatasaray. He had a successful season with the Turkish champions.
The 27-year-old scored 15 league goals and provided five assists in 22 matches. His performance helped the club win another league title.
He also scored seven goals and got three assists in the UEFA Champions League. Galatasaray reached the round of 16 in that competition.
Latest transfer rumors link him with Manchester United. Reports say he is at the top of the club’s five-man shortlist for strikers ahead of the summer transfer window.
But sources close to Osimhen say he is only interested in leaving if Galatasaray decides to sell him.
Meanwhile, the club has reportedly set a price of €150 million for the striker. They bought him from Napoli for €75 million last summer.
