Osimhen sends message to Galatasaray after opening draw

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has told Galatasaray to step up their game. His two goals saved the Turkish champions from losing to newly promoted Çorum in a 2-2 draw.

Osimhen scored twice, helping Galatasaray earn their first point in the 2026/27 season. But despite his goals, the Nigerian striker was not happy with the result. He called on his teammates to learn from this disappointing match.

As reported by Premium Times on Saturday, Osimhen said, “It’s a disappointment. We didn’t see a small opponent. Such opponents are difficult. We knew they would force it, and so it happened.”

He added, “We need to wake up. We are experiencing disappointment. Let this be a wake-up call. We know that all the next matches will be difficult. We will continue on our way by taking lessons and correcting ourselves.”

The draw came after Galatasaray lost their lead in a surprising turn of events. Osimhen had given the hosts the lead in the second half. But Çorum quickly scored twice to turn the match around. Osimhen later scored again to earn a point for the champions.

While Osimhen was pleased with his performance, he stressed that Galatasaray needs to work together as a team. They have to improve if they want to be successful this season. “It will be a tough season. We are aware of this as a team. I am ready to give my all for the club,” he said.

He also remarked, “I think this was an important game for waking up. We have a lot of things to work on as players. We need to give everything on the field.”

Galatasaray must balance their local goals with their European challenges. Osimhen called for the team to build momentum for their Champions League campaign. He also praised the club’s supporters for their strong backing.

“Our fans give us incredible energy and they are always behind us. We also need to pay for that,” Osimhen said. “We need to gain momentum before the Champions League. We need to fight very well from the next first match.”

When asked about the rumors around his future, Osimhen refused to let them distract him. “There are always rumours during transfer seasons. I will take care of my business. I’m focused on my work,” he said.

“We will see and think about it later.” For now, Osimhen is focused on helping Galatasaray bounce back from this disappointing draw and build momentum for the tough season ahead.
