The City Boy Movement in Oyo State has warned its members not to support candidates from opposition parties while claiming loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The movement’s Director, Olufemi Onireti, made this known in a statement released in Ibadan, the state capital, on Tuesday. He affirmed the group’s loyalty to the APC and its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Onireti said the movement is fully committed to the party and all its candidates, from the presidential to the governorship and other positions.
He said, “We are unequivocally loyal to the APC and all its candidates. Our loyalty is not selective, and we will not support one candidate while abandoning another. We stand firmly with the party at the presidential, governorship and other elective levels.”
The movement expressed worry about some political groups that claim to be linked with the APC but are openly backing candidates from other parties. They described this behavior as not true loyalty to the party.
“Political loyalty must be consistent. You cannot claim to be committed to the APC while simultaneously promoting candidates of other political parties based on personal interests or political calculations. Such actions raise serious questions about the sincerity of your allegiance to the party,” Onireti stated.
He added that the movement would not compromise its principles by giving selective support. He said they would not join any efforts that weaken the party’s interests.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Oyo City Boy Movement stands firmly with the APC and all its candidates. We will not be part of any arrangement that undermines the party’s interests or promotes candidates from opposing political parties while claiming to represent the APC. Our loyalty is to the party, and our support extends to all its candidates,” he added.
Onireti also thanked everyone who took part in the movement’s inaugural event held the week before.
He particularly appreciated the state APC Chairman, Moses Adeyemo, and the state Women Leader, Felicia Opatunde, for their attendance and support. He praised executives and members from the state’s zones for their roles in making the event a success.
The movement urged APC stakeholders and the public to tell the difference between groups truly dedicated to the party and those with mixed loyalties. It also called on APC-affiliated groups to show consistency, discipline, and unity.
