Actor Patrick Diabuah warned against confusing personal goals with what God wants. He said people need to learn the difference between their wishes and what they think God has told them.

Diabuah plays Pastor Matthew in Africa Magic’s series The Ten. He shared his thoughts on the choices that led to a church outreach trip in the show. This trip ends with the kidnapping of 10 church members.

When asked what he would change if he had another chance, Diabuah mentioned the trip. He believes it shows Pastor Matthew’s failure to see clearly.

He compared this to people who take on big projects they cannot afford because they think God has promised them success. “I remember once telling somebody that it’s not the Lord that is showing you; it’s in your head. You are just forcing the Lord into it,” he said.

Diabuah said questioning these beliefs doesn’t mean someone loses their faith. He pointed out that not every thought is a message from God. “A lot of people will see it as, ‘Oh, Pastor no longer believes in God,’ but no,” he said. “God does not have to talk to man the way we are talking like this. Sometimes it can just be those things in your mind that come to mind.”

With over 20 years in theatre, Diabuah said this role let him explore a religious leader’s struggles. Pastor Matthew loves God but deals with pride and guilt. Diabuah believes religious leaders should be allowed to make mistakes if they recognize their faults and want to change.

The character’s issues add to the tension in The Ten. This psychological thriller, created by filmmaker Lota Chukwu, follows kidnapping survivors who gather for a vigil led by Pastor Matthew. But then, one of them is murdered.

As a local festival traps everyone inside the church, the group faces another deadly situation. This time, there is a killer among them.

The Ten airs on Thursdays and Fridays at 8:30 p.m. on Africa Magic Showcase. You can also stream it on DStv Stream.
