An Ikirun-born philanthropist and All Peoples Movement senatorial candidate for Osun Central, Ibraheem Luqman, has promised to provide a home for the father of the late gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, known as Toluwanisings, and scholarships for his two children.
This move comes after many people showed concern about the living conditions of the singer’s father, Muniru Adekunle Olayemi. Photos and videos of his home went viral on social media, sparking public outcry.
Luqman released a statement on Wednesday through his campaign team. He said he has sent a group to Ikirun, Osun State, to meet with the elderly man and discuss how he can help the family.
According to the statement, the philanthropist wants to move Olayemi to a better place in Ikirun for a more comfortable life. He also plans to support the education of the late singer’s two daughters.
The statement, titled "Ibraheem Adekunle Offers Housing, Scholarships to Late Toluwanisings’ Family," included, "Moved by concern over the living conditions of the elderly father, Dr. Luqman, who hails from Ikirun, Osun State, dispatched a team to the town today to meet with Mr. Olayemi and communicate his commitment to supporting the family."
It continued, "As part of the humanitarian gesture, Dr. Luqman has offered to move the elderly man to decent accommodation within Ikirun, ensuring that he can live in a more comfortable and dignified environment.
“In addition, the APM senatorial candidate has promised scholarships for the two children of the late gospel singer to support their education and help secure their future despite the loss of their father.”
In a video of the visit shared online, a member of Luqman’s team explained why they were there. They told Olayemi that the offer aimed to help him live in a better place and support his grandchildren’s education.
“Luqman asked us to visit you for two reasons. Firstly, he is worried about your housing situation. He said we should find a comfortable place for you to live for at least two years, where you can have peace of mind.
“He also wants to sponsor your grandchildren’s education up to the university level, so he would like to have your permission.
“This recent event is heartbreaking because our friend who died was one of the stars of Ikirun,” the delegate said.
The campaign organization stated that this action shows Luqman's care for vulnerable people and his belief that helping the community should be part of public service.
It said, “While losing a loved one creates a deep emotional gap, the support given to the family aims to ease some of the challenges they face and provide hope for the future, especially for the children.”
The statement also noted that this support is intended to go beyond just words of comfort. It aims to meet the family's immediate needs and the long-term welfare of the children.
However, the campaign statement referred to the housing and scholarships as offers and promises. It did not say that the family had already moved into a new apartment or that the scholarships had started.
