Winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, Ijeoma Otabor, known as Phyna, is getting heat from fans and social media users due to her ongoing public fight with content creators Carter Efe and Davrel.
What started as an online spat has turned into a wider discussion about how the reality star is managing her public image. Some critics are questioning how she is handling this whole situation.
Media personality and commentator Tosin Silverdam shared a viral video where he compared Phyna’s actions to those of past BBNaija winners. He said her recent behavior is hurting her reputation.
He also asked if Phyna has good advisers or a management team to guide her. He thinks the public back and forth between her and the content creators has become too much.
He said, “It’s like Phyna has forgotten that she won Big Brother Naija or something because what is going on with the back and forth she’s having with Carter Efe and one boy like that? Carter Efe saying that she slept with him. She doesn’t respect herself at all. Look at the way these boys are disrespecting Phyna. That other boy is saying her BBL is smelling. She needs class, because at this point, it is really embarrassing.”
Silverdam also pointed out that Phyna’s public reactions, including emotional livestreams and her repeated replies to the allegations, are not helping her brand. He feels these responses are unhelpful in this situation.
The issue got bigger after Carter Efe allegedly made claims about his relationship with Phyna. Davrel also said things that sparked more reactions online.
In reaction, Phyna spoke about the allegations during an Instagram Live session. She showed her displeasure and later stated that both men had received legal documents for a reported N500m lawsuit. She also asked for a retraction of their statements.
But beyond the legal issues, online discussions are mostly about how the reality star is dealing with the matter in public. Some users are criticizing her, saying her actions do not match what you would expect from a former BBNaija winner.
One Facebook user said, “Phyna and drama, she doesn’t rate herself at all, a whole BBNaija winner.”
Another user questioned her supporters, writing, “To those of you who voted for this lady to win BBNaija, what did you people see? I’m really curious.”
Other commenters feel that this drama could hurt her public image. A user named Veralyn said, “People would regard you how you regard yourself.”
Some users, however, mentioned that winning BBNaija does not change who a person is. “Being a BBNaija winner does not change one’s personality. This is who she is, and BBNaija winner is just a title,” another user remarked.
A fan of Phyna added that she needs to take a break from social media to fix her image. “I love Phyna, but I think she needs to go offline and rebrand. I understand that life has not really been fair to her, but she needs to heal and live for herself,” the fan wrote.
As the controversy keeps buzzing online, some users suggest this could be part of a publicity stunt to grab attention.
