Poco Lee is back with Burna Boy after UK release

Nigerian dancer Iweh Odinaka, known as Poco Lee, has made his first public appearance after reports that he is free from custody in the UK.

Poco Lee appeared with Afrobeats star Burna Boy in a video shared on social media by activist Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, on Saturday.

Mr Otse called the video “proof of life” and said it is Poco Lee’s first video since his reported release.

“Proof of life, Poco Lee’s first video since he came out. Big up @burnaboygram. Welcome back @poco_lee,” he wrote.

This footage shows that Poco Lee is no longer in custody. But UK authorities have not explained the details of his release.

His appearance with Burna Boy is also significant because some of Poco Lee’s friends had earlier said that Burna Boy and socialite Rahman Jago helped get him released. Neither Burna Boy nor UK authorities have confirmed this.

Reports of Poco Lee’s freedom came out on Friday after weeks in detention over five sexual offence charges.

Some friends said the complainant withdrew from the case, while others claimed Burna Boy and Rahman Jago helped with his release.

Streamer and content creator Peller also said during a livestream that the complainant stopped pursuing the case.

But just because he is out does not mean the criminal case is over.

The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed on Saturday that the case is still active. They said Poco Lee is set to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 15 September for a Plea and Trial Preparation Hearing (PTPH).

“This case is still live, and Odinaka is still set to appear for a PTPH at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 15 September 2026,” the CPS Press Office said in response to a question.

The CPS did not confirm if the complainant had withdrawn from the case or explain the terms of Poco Lee’s release.

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that Poco Lee is facing five sexual offence charges in the UK: one count of attempted rape, two counts of rape, and two counts of assault by penetration.

The alleged offences reportedly happened in Tower Hamlets, east London, on 23 July 2026.

Mr Odinaka first appeared before Thames Magistrates’ Court on 18 August, and the case was moved to Snaresbrook Crown Court.

The court then set a PTPH for 15 September. This hearing will discuss issues like the defendant’s plea and trial preparations.

There is also a reporting restriction to protect the complainant’s identity.

Poco Lee went to the UK in August for the Davido and Friends concert at Crystal Palace Bowl in London on 14 August.

His detention became known days later when Benjamin Kuti, also known as Oluomo of Derby and founder of the Community of Nigerians in the UK, confirmed that Poco Lee was being held.

Poco Lee’s management and legal team urged the public to avoid spreading unverified stories about the case. His team also said that claims about a drink-spiking incident were not related to the charges.

Poco Lee’s latest appearance comes just two days before his court hearing. While the video suggests he is out of custody, the criminal case is still active, according to the CPS. (The Punch)

Mr Odinaka has not been found guilty of any crime, and the allegations against him are still to be decided by the court.
