The Delta State Police have arrested a popular content creator from Asaba, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, known as "Odogwu of Asaba". He is accused of raping a 20-year-old woman who later took her own life.
On Wednesday, the state police public relations officer, Bright Edafe, shared details about the case. The woman, identified as Favour Agbro from Ughelli North Local Government Area, traveled to Asaba after Ogbonna promised to teach her how to make money from her TikTok and Facebook pages.
Edafe said the incident happened on June 1, 2026, when Favour went to Asaba to meet Ogbonna. A human rights activist, Israel Joe, shared on Facebook that Favour had told Ogbonna before the trip that she was a virgin and did not want a relationship.
Joe claimed that Ogbonna assured her he only wanted to help her learn about content creation. He pointed out that after the alleged assault, Favour returned home traumatized and later took her own life because she felt hopeless about getting justice.
Joe wrote, "Her name is Favour Agbro, from Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. She was deceived by a popular content creator based in Asaba who claimed he teaches young people how to make money by monetising their TikTok and Facebook pages to help them go viral and get views.
“This young girl chatted with him, and he invited her to come over to Asaba for the training, assuring her that he would help her. When she got there, he asked her to enter a room.
“This girl had told him, even in their WhatsApp conversation, that she was a virgin and did not want any relationship. He promised her that he only teaches in the hotel.
“But guess what? He forced her, covered her mouth and grabbed her brutally until she began to bleed profusely, yet did not give her food, drugs or anything to help her recover. She cried and shouted and called her twin sister to tell her what had happened. She also called her mother, who sent her transport fare to return to Warri."
Edafe confirmed that Ogbonna took Favour to a hotel when she arrived. There, he allegedly raped her and assaulted her physically. The police statement said, "Upon her arrival in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence. She later returned home, visibly distressed and disclosed the incident to her parents."
He also stated that Favour recorded a video where she shared her experience and the emotional pain she felt before she died by taking a toxic substance. The statement continued, "In the aftermath of the alleged assault, the deceased made a video recording in which she recounted her experience and the emotional distress she suffered following the incident.
“She subsequently committed suicide by ingesting a toxic substance and later died despite efforts to save her life."
The PPRO said that after a petition was submitted, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, ordered the Area Command in Effurun to start an immediate investigation. He added that this led to the arrest of Ogbonna, who has given useful statements as investigations go on.
“During the preliminary investigation, the suspect reportedly made useful statements to the police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case,” the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police assured the deceased's family and the public that they would thoroughly investigate the case. He promised that no aspect of the allegations would be ignored and that the law would be followed.
