The Oyo State Police have found a hijacked DAF tanker truck left in the Ile-Igbon area of the state. This happened after police carried out an operation to catch vehicle hijackers who work across state lines.

In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said this operation is a big win in their fight against crime. He added that they are dedicated to keeping people safe and protecting property in the state.

The police said their operatives acted on solid intelligence. This led them to the abandoned truck, which had been left there for several days.

"Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Command recovered a hijacked DAF tanker truck that had been abandoned in the Ile-Igbon area of Oyo State," the statement said.

The police looked into the case and found that the suspects abandoned the truck when they realized police were watching them closely.

"Intelligence further suggests that the criminal elements who had unlawfully taken possession of the truck abandoned it upon realizing that security operatives were actively tracking their movement," it added.

The Command noted that the pressure from police made it hard for the suspects to keep the truck.

"Unable to retain possession of the vehicle in the face of heightened police pressure and intelligence-led operations, the suspects fled the area in an apparent attempt to evade arrest, leaving the truck behind," the statement said.

After the recovery, the tanker was secured and moved into police custody for further investigation. Authorities confirmed that the vehicle was hijacked along the Ijebu-Ode route in Ogun State by armed men.

"The recovered vehicle was promptly secured and taken into police custody pending the conclusion of necessary investigative procedures," said the Command.

The truck driver later identified the vehicle, confirming that it was taken by force. The vehicle owner also supported this, saying they had reported the issue to the police in Ogun State.

The Command stated that they are working with the Ogun State Police to follow proper procedures for returning the vehicle to its owner.

"The Oyo State Police Command is currently working in close collaboration with the Ogun State Police Command to facilitate the necessary administrative procedures for the release of the recovered vehicle to its rightful owner," the statement mentioned.

They also confirmed that they are actively trying to find and arrest the suspects who escaped.

"While ongoing efforts are being intensified to identify, locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects," it noted.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to preventing crime. He said they focus on intelligence-driven policing and working together with other agencies.

He also asked residents to help security agencies by giving timely information that could help catch criminals.

The Command provided emergency contact numbers, urging the public to report any suspicious activity through their toll-free line.
