The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 32 suspects for different crimes, including kidnapping and human trafficking. They also seized 10 rifles and 54 rounds of live ammunition in various operations across the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, shared this news on Friday during a briefing with journalists at the Command Headquarters in Jos. He talked about the successes the command has had in recent times.

Faniyan mentioned that since he took over about two months ago, his focus has been on intelligence-led policing, preventing crime, maintaining professional conduct, and stopping corruption among officers.

He credited these achievements to the hard work of his team and the information given by the public. He thanked the media for their support and objectivity, asking for continued partnership in sharing accurate information.

Operation Highlights

Faniyan gave details of some operations. He said, "On August 7, 2026, operatives on an intelligence-led patrol arrested one John Oba Agbanu, 24, in Zaramaganda forest, Jos South LGA, and recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol with two rounds of 9mm ammunition and two daggers."

He continued, "On August 13, police detectives arrested one Peter Pius, 23, of Jebbu Bassa, in a hotel in Bassa LGA, recovering a locally fabricated pistol and other items."

"On August 31, operatives from Bashar Division arrested one Buba Abdulkarim of Wase LGA and recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of 7.62mm ammunition," he added.

The Commissioner also said the command made significant arms recoveries even without making arrests. He explained, "On August 28, operatives of 81 PMF, Bassa, engaged suspected bandits at Kafi Abu, Barkin Ladi LGA, recovering one GPMG and one AK-47 rifle after the suspects fled."

He noted, "Similarly, on August 31, a Tactical Team in Barkin Ladi recovered a locally made rifle and nine rounds of ammunition from suspected illegal miners."

Crimes Against Persons

On crimes involving people, Faniyan reported that a 22-year-old man was arrested in Bokkos LGA for alleged rape. He also mentioned a 35-year-old man arrested for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl and a 40-year-old school owner for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old pupil.

He stated that the victims were taken to the hospital for medical checks. He added that the suspects would be taken to court once investigations are completed.

Drug-Related Offences

In drug-related cases, Faniyan said four suspects were arrested on September 1 during a raid in Angwan Rogo, Jos. They were found with substances believed to be cannabis and other hard drugs.

Faniyan explained that investigations are still ongoing to catch other gang members who fled. He assured that all suspects would be charged in court.

The Commissioner promised that the command would keep improving intelligence-led operations and work closely with other agencies and communities. He urged residents to stay alert, obey the law, and provide timely and reliable information to the police.
