The Osun State Police Command on Wednesday announced the arrest of Taye Kasali from Bose Osi, Osun State. He is accused of killing his mother, Kudirat Kasali.
After allegedly committing the act, Kasali reportedly buried his mother's body in a shallow grave on their family farm.
This information was shared in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Abiodun Ojelabi. A copy of the statement was given to The PUNCH.
Ojelabi explained the details of the incident, saying, “On 1st September 2026 at about 7:30pm, there was a report at Bode-Osi Division that one Mrs Kudirat Kasali and her son, Taye Kasali, were missing.
“Following the report, Police operatives began an investigation. Through intelligence-led work, the suspect, Taye Kasali, was arrested on 7th September 2026 in connection with the crime.
“During questioning, the suspect confessed to the crime. He claimed that his mother had been calling him mad and had threatened to lease the family farm. He said this farmland was the main source of livelihood for them.
“The suspect admitted that he killed his mother on 31st August 2026 by slitting her throat with a machete. He then buried her body in a shallow grave on the farm.”
Ojelabi added that, during the investigation, the suspect took police officers to the shallow grave. There, they found the remains of Kudirat Kasali along with the machete he allegedly used to commit the murder.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has ordered a detailed investigation into the case. He stated that the suspect would be charged to court once the investigation is complete.
Zungura also assured the public that justice would be served according to the law. He urged people to quickly report cases of missing persons and any suspicious activities to the Police or other relevant security agencies. He asked for the public's help with any necessary information.
