The Police in the Federal Capital Territory say they have not received any report about kidney sales in the Nyanya area of Abuja. This news has been making rounds on social media.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, made this known in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Adeh said this statement was necessary because of the social media posts claiming that the command confirmed that young people in Nyanya had sold their kidneys for money.
The posts also claimed that an agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was buying these kidneys from the young people.
"The Police Command in the FCT wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature.
"No statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the command," she said.
Adeh urged people to ignore these posts and stop spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear and panic among residents.
She also encouraged anyone with information about the alleged organ trafficking or any security issue in the FCT to report it to the nearest police station or contact the command at these phone numbers: 07038979348 or 08028940883.
