Police Send Officers to Anambra Schools as Students Return

The Anambra State Police Command has sent officers to schools and key places in the state as students get ready for the new school year.

This move is part of the Inspector General of Police’s Safe School Initiative. The goal is to stop security threats around schools, protect students, and make sure they can move safely during busy school times.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, shared this information in a statement on Wednesday. He said the operation is led by ACP Harrison Oruruo, the Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations.

Ikenga mentioned that officers will be visible around schools. They will teach students about personal safety, help them cross streets, and respond to any security issues.

He added that this plan will also help build better teamwork between the police, school officials, parents, teachers, local communities, and others involved.

The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, encouraged parents, teachers, and students to stay alert. He asked them to report any suspicious people or activities near schools right away.

He said, “The protection of children and other members of the school community remains a priority for the command. We urge school authorities, parents, guardians and students to remain security conscious and promptly report any suspicious persons, activities or security concerns to the police.”

Ama emphasized that security is everyone's job. He asked all involved to keep in touch with the police and other security groups.

He stated, “Security is a shared responsibility. All stakeholders must support the Safe School Initiative by maintaining effective communication with the police and other security agencies.”

The CP promised residents that the police would keep a strong presence, engage with the community, and practice proactive policing around schools across the state.

He also wished all pupils, students, teachers, and everyone in the school community a safe and successful academic year.
