The Oyo State Police Command has begun an investigation into the kidnapping of Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu. She and her twin sons were taken in the early hours of Wednesday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
In a statement by Olayinka Ayanlade, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, the command promised to use all available resources to ensure the victims are rescued safely and to catch the kidnappers.
Femi Awogboro, a media aide to Adelabu, released a statement confirming the kidnapping. He said, "The family of Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and leading gubernatorial aspirant of APC in Oyo State, wishes to formally confirm the unfortunate kidnapping of his younger sister, Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026."
Awogboro added, "Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan. The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons who were with her at the time of the incident."
Awogboro explained that Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. He mentioned that she had worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before retiring last year.
The police statement mentioned that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State quickly directed the Divisional Police Officer of the Challenge Division and other tactical teams to go to the scene. They found the victim’s vehicle and started detailed investigations.
The command assured the public that all necessary resources are in use to guarantee the safe return of the victims and to catch those behind this crime.
The police are looking into the details of the incident and want to bring the culprits to justice. They asked residents to stay calm, obey the law, and report any useful information that could help with the ongoing investigations.
