The Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has said there will be a planned six-day power outage in many communities across four local government areas in Enugu State.

MEDL is a power distribution company in Enugu. It is part of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company and is responsible for providing power in the South-east.

Emeka Ezeh, the spokesperson for MEDL, said in a statement on Monday that the outage will be managed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) at their station in Nsukka.

According to Mr Ezeh, the blackout will start on Thursday, 5 November, and last until Tuesday, 10 November. The power will be off daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

"The planned outage is to enable the TCN technical team to carry out maintenance work on some equipment at the station.

The exercise will affect electricity supply to the UNN, SUMAS, and Orba 33kV feeders, leading to power interruptions for customers served by these feeders during this time," he explained.

He also listed the areas that will be affected. These include Ukopi, Opi Agu, Eha-Alumona, Orba Town, Obollo-Afor, parts of Obollo-Eke, Enugu Ezike, Ibagwa, Nkalagu Obukpa, Okpaligbo, Iheaka, Edem Ani, Agbani, Uzo-Uwani, Obimo, Nkpologu, Lejja, Nguru, Aku, and Ogbede, as well as nearby communities.

Other areas on the list are Odim Gate, Nkpor, Nru, Ede Oballa, El Tabera Estate, Ikenga Estate, Wilson Company, Umakashi, Isiakpu, G.R.A., Ogige Main Market, and the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

PREMIUM TIMES reports that these communities are in Nsukka, Udenu, Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, and Igbo-Etiti Local Government Areas of Enugu State.

Mr Ezeh expressed regret for any trouble this planned outage may cause customers, and he asked for their patience and understanding.

"The exercise is necessary to facilitate essential technical work aimed at improving the reliability and quality of electricity supply to customers," he stated.
