Queiroz returns as coach of Ghana's Black Stars

Carlos Queiroz is back as the head coach of Ghana’s national football team. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed this news.

The 73-year-old Portuguese coach is taking charge of the Black Stars again after leading the team during this year’s FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz started his time with Ghana in April and helped the team reach the last 32 of the tournament. They lost 1-0 to Colombia in that round.

After the defeat, Queiroz hinted at leaving the team on social media. But after some discussions, the GFA decided to bring him back.

The GFA did not say how long Queiroz's new contract is. They mentioned that his job is to prepare the Black Stars for a “successful new phase on the international stage.”

In a statement on Thursday, the GFA said, “The GFA believes Queiroz’s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter.”

Queiroz has a lot of experience in international football. He has managed teams like Iran, Portugal, and Egypt in major tournaments. He also led South Africa, Colombia, and Qatar at different times.

The Portuguese coach has worked as an assistant manager at Manchester United under the famous Sir Alex Ferguson.

Queiroz’s first task will be getting Ghana ready for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. These qualifiers are set to begin later this month.

Ghana is in Group C, along with Ivory Coast, The Gambia, and Somalia. The dates and venues for their first two matches are still to be announced.
