Real Madrid has signed striker Carlos Espi from Levante on Thursday for a fee of 25 million euros, which is about 29 million dollars.
The 21-year-old was being watched by several clubs in the Premier League, but Madrid acted fast. They needed a replacement as Gonzalo Garcia is expected to move to Fulham.
“(Espi) will join our club for the next five seasons, until June 30, 2031,” Madrid said in a statement.
Last season, Espi scored 11 goals in La Liga over 25 appearances in the top division.
He is the fifth player Madrid has signed this summer. They have also brought in Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries.
Reports say Madrid is also in talks with RB Leipzig’s Ivorian winger Yan Diomande. Manchester City midfielder Rodri is another player they are reportedly interested in.
Madrid is making big changes to their team after two seasons without a major trophy. They have hired Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho to take over from Alvaro Arbeloa.
