Nigerian Afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, had a memorable moment at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony. He performed live with BLACKPINK’s Lisa and Brazilian star Anitta, debuting their new song, Goals.
The event took place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Friday night. It marked the start of the tournament in the co-host United States with lively energy.
The three artists, representing Africa, Asia, and Latin America, mixed Afrobeats, K-pop, and Latin pop. Their performance was a high-energy celebration for the world’s biggest sporting event.
In a clip from the ceremony, Rema stood out in a striking white hooded outfit. He commanded the stage as he performed alongside Lisa and Anitta.
Goals was released in May as part of the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album. Grammy-winning producer Cirkut worked on the track with Bava and Pink Slip.
The song brings together different global sounds and has quickly become a fan favorite. Its upbeat and hopeful vibe resonates with many.
Rema’s verse wraps up the song with an Afrobeats rap. In it, the Calm Down singer describes himself as a unique and unstoppable global star who is “scoring goals” in music and life.
Other artists who performed at the ceremony included Future and Tyla.
The ceremony happened just before the US began its match against Paraguay.
Rema’s performance followed another Nigerian artist, Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy. He teamed up with Colombian pop star Shakira for the live debut of the tournament’s official anthem, “Dai Dai,” at the opening ceremony in Mexico on Thursday.
