RMD shares romantic gesture of giving wife ₦100m cheque

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, known as RMD, has shared that he once gave his wife, Jumobi, the first ₦100 million cheque he received.

In an interview on The Morayo Show, which started trending on Wednesday, the 65-year-old actor called himself an "incurable romantic." He enjoys giving his wife gifts because gift-giving is her love language.

RMD mentioned that one of the best compliments he gets from Jumobi is knowing that the important things she has were bought by him.

"I’m an incurable romantic. These days, it isn’t about flowers and chocolates anymore because ladies like money," he said.

Reflecting on the moment he got his first ₦100 million cheque, RMD said he quickly told his manager to give it to his wife.

"The first biggest cheque I ever received was for ₦100 million. When it was presented to me, I told my manager to give it to my wife. When she got it, she asked if I wanted her to keep it for the children. I told her no, that she should keep it for herself and do whatever she wanted with it," he explained.

RMD also mentioned that he knows most of that money would eventually be spent on their children.

"The trick is that I know 90 per cent of the money will eventually end up being spent on the children. I like giving my wife the biggest things I have so she never has to ask for anything. All the big and beautiful things in the house are hers," he said.

RMD married Jumobi, a former television presenter, in 2000, four years after his first wife, May Ellen Ezekiel, passed away. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in December 2025.

The actor, who hails from Delta State, has four children, two from his first marriage and two from his current marriage.
