Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has shown support for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman. He believes Lookman can find his best form again. Simeone said he has faith in the Nigerian player despite a tough start this season.
Lookman has not played much recently. He was on the pitch for only 14 minutes in Atletico’s 2-0 win over Levante last Saturday. Still, he has managed two goals and one assist in 14 games this season. This includes one goal and one assist in three Champions League matches.
Before Atletico’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, Simeone encouraged Lookman not to feel frustrated. He mentioned that other players like Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann faced similar challenges.
“He didn’t start as he would have liked, but last season Julian also went through that and came out of it. And Griezmann too,” the Argentine coach said.
Simeone also praised Lookman’s skill in attacking. He pointed out that Lookman is one of the players who has tried the most one-on-one duels in the final third.
“I trust him a lot. I don’t want him to get frustrated because he’s not going through his best moment. It’s part of life, part of the game, part of football,” he added.
Simeone is confident that Lookman will keep working hard until he improves. He believes that the goal Lookman needs to boost his confidence will come soon.
Lookman joined Atletico from Atalanta. His strong performances there made him one of Nigeria’s top players in European football.
