Six People Arrested for Drugs and Murder in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police have arrested two people suspected of drug trafficking. They recovered 69 blocks of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp in the state.

The police also arrested four suspects linked to the murder of a 45-year-old farmer, Garba Abdullahi, in the Gadau area.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, shared this news in a statement on Wednesday. He said the arrests are part of the police's ongoing efforts against crime in the state.

Habib revealed that on September 21, 2026, around 3pm, officers from the Gadau Division acted on reliable information. They stopped a black Sharon Wagon with registration number WKA 805 near Sharfolli village in the Atafowa District.

He explained that the vehicle was suspected to be carrying illegal drugs. The PPRO said, "The police team’s quick action led to the arrest of two suspects, Shu’aibu Umar, 35, and Isah Ibrahim, 20. They are both from Atafowa village in Itas/Gadau Local Government Area. They had 69 blocks of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp hidden in bags of groundnut."

The suspects are now in police custody, and the drugs have been recovered.

In another case, Habib mentioned that on September 22, 2026, they received a report about a 45-year-old man named Garba Abdullahi. He was attacked while returning from his farm.

According to him, four individuals attacked Garba, accusing him of causing the illness of one Sawaida Dahiru. He said, "On September 22, 2026, at about 12:35pm, a 35-year-old man from Dunari village reported at Gadau Division. He said that on the same day, at about 11:40am, his elder brother, Garba Abdullahi, was severely attacked on his way home from the farm by four men. They accused him of causing Sawaida Dahiru's illness."

Habib continued, "The attackers, identified as Shitu Dahiru, 25; Magaji Dahiru, 42; Sabi’u Auwalu, 20; and Abbah Abdulzahar, 19, all male and from the same area, stabbed and macheted the victim in different places, leaving him unconscious."

After the report, police rushed to the location and took the victim to General Hospital, Azare, for treatment. Unfortunately, doctors later confirmed that he had died. His body was released to his family for burial.

The PPRO stated that all four suspects are now in police custody.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the rise in jungle justice and actions based on superstitions. He warned that no one has the right to take another person’s life for any reason.

Habib mentioned that both cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi, for thorough investigation and prosecution.

The police assured residents of their commitment to protecting lives and property. They also encouraged people to continue providing timely and reliable information to the police. The police advised citizens against taking the law into their own hands.
