The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play Russia in an international friendly at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday, October 6, 2026.

The Nigeria Football Federation shared the news on its official X account, stating this will be the "second meeting between both nations in 16 months."

“The fixture has been confirmed by Nigeria’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodatasports,” the NFF added.

Nigeria and Russia last met in a friendly match in Moscow back in June 2025. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Russia scored first in the 27th minute when Nigeria defender Semi Ajayi accidentally put the ball in his own net. Tolu Arokodare then equalised for the Super Eagles in the 71st minute.

In that match, Russia had more control of the game with 58 percent possession compared to Nigeria’s 42 percent. The hosts also had more shots, hitting 10 compared to Nigeria's six.

Since 2022, Russia has been banned from official FIFA and UEFA competitions. To keep their team active, they have arranged friendly matches with various teams, including several from Africa.

The upcoming match will allow both teams to test their players before their next international events.
