Nigerian high jump record holder, Temitope Adeshina, is not sure if she will compete in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. This comes despite her great performance during the NCAA season, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Adeshina ended the 2026 NCAA season unbeaten. She won every available indoor and outdoor title.

The 27-year-old had an impressive run in the U.S. collegiate system. She won the outdoor title last Saturday after two previous attempts. In Eugene, Oregon, she cleared 1.97m to claim her first NCAA Outdoor title.

Even with her strong performance and being a medal contender for Nigeria at the Commonwealth Games, the Texas Tech athlete is still considering her next steps.

“I am not sure if I will be competing after the NCAA season, but my sights are already on the next World Championships and the Olympics,” Adeshina told Making of Champions.

She added, “At the next Olympics, my target is to be on the podium, and I have been working towards that.”

At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, she finished 19th overall and did not make it to the final.

After that setback, she bounced back by winning important collegiate titles, but she has not yet competed for Nigeria.

In 2024, she set Nigerian national records and claimed her first NCAA title in 2025. She also represented Nigeria at the Paris Olympics, where she finished outside the medal positions.

Adeshina is only the second Nigerian woman to participate in Olympic high jump. The first was Doreen Amata, who competed at the Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016 Games.

Earlier this year, she received the International Student-Athlete Excellence Award in the women’s category at Texas Tech’s 2026 Red & Black Gala.
