Three Killed in Cult Violence in Osun

The police in Osun State have confirmed that three people died in clashes between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye cults.

These clashes took place in the Imo Area of Ilesa, Osun State. The police reported that the violence happened around 8:00 p.m. on Monday.

In a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, obtained in Osogbo on Tuesday, the police said they received a distress call from the area. Samuel Etaifo, the Commissioner of Police for the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, ordered the Violence Crime Response Unit to the scene.

The statement read, “The Osun State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that there was a reported cult-related clash between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the Imo area of Ilesa, Osun State, at about 8:00 p.m.”

According to the police, three individuals were shot dead. They are identified as Idowu, Yinka, and Eja. Their full identities have not yet been confirmed.

The Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale Etaifo, immediately directed the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to the area. Their job is to prevent further violence, catch those responsible, and restore peace.

From the crime scene, police found four used cartridges and two Android phones. They have started preliminary investigations into what happened.

“The Command is also working to find out the details of the incident and identify all those involved in the clash,” the statement added.

The Commissioner has instructed the VCRU and other tactical teams to increase patrols and surveillance in Ilesa and nearby areas. They will focus on known trouble spots to prevent any revenge attacks.

The police warned members of rival cults and other criminals not to exploit the situation to cause more violence. They made it clear that anyone involved in cult violence, revenge attacks, illegal possession of firearms, or other crimes will be arrested and face serious consequences.

The police also called on Ilesa residents to stay calm and obey the law. They urged people not to spread unverified information and to report any suspicious activities to the police.

They confirmed that an investigation is underway and promised to keep the public updated with any new information.
