The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men for having Indian hemp and a 20-year-old for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl.

The arrests were announced in a statement on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib.

Habib said these arrests are part of the police's ongoing fight against crime in the state.

He explained that the first incident happened on October 12, 2026. A patrol team from the Duguri Divisional Police Headquarters arrested two men who were found with dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspects are Iliyasu Yakubu, 27, and Zakariya Ibrahim, 25. Both are from Duguri town.

According to the police spokesman, Yakubu was caught with the suspected drug, while Ibrahim was said to be his supplier.

The statement said, "On 12/10/2026 at about 0210hrs, a patrol team attached to Duguri Division, while on routine crime prevention patrol, arrested one Iliyasu Yakubu, 27 years old, of Duguri town, found in possession of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, alongside his vendor, one Zakariya Ibrahim, 25 years old, of the same address."

Habib mentioned that the suspects were arrested and the drugs were seized. He added that investigations are still ongoing.

In another case, a 20-year-old man named Mujahid Danjuma was arrested for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl in Bundot, located in Dass Local Government Area.

Habib said the girl’s mother, who is 30 years old, reported the incident on September 28 at the Dass Divisional Police Headquarters.

The statement noted that the crime took place on September 25. Danjuma reportedly lured the girl into an unfinished building and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

The police spokesman said the victim was taken to the General Hospital in Dass for a medical checkup. The examination confirmed penetration, while the suspect ran away after the incident.

He added that the police arrested Danjuma in the early hours of Tuesday, October 13. This followed ongoing efforts and intelligence-led policing.

“In a display of relentless follow-up and intelligence-led policing, operatives of the command at the early hours of today, 13th October, 2026, arrested the fleeing suspect, Mujahid Danjuma, who is currently in custody,” the statement said.

Habib mentioned that all three suspects will be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has assured the public of the command’s commitment to fighting crime in the state.

The command also urged parents and guardians to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
