TikTok has said it is not blocking access to its platform in some Northern Nigerian states.
Keagile Makgoba, the Head of Communications for Sub-Saharan Africa at TikTok, made this clear in a statement on Monday. This comes after users reported problems accessing the app.
Makgoba mentioned that the company is working with the right people to fix the reported access issues.
"We can confirm that this restriction was not implemented by TikTok," she stated.
She also said TikTok is dedicated to making sure its communities can access the platform.
PUNCH Online previously reported that a group of civil society organizations has called for an independent inquiry into the access problems in Northern Nigeria.
The groups said, "users in Kaduna, Kebbi, Kano and Sokoto states had experienced difficulties loading videos, viewing content, and uploading materials since September 14."
They asked the relevant authorities and telecom operators to look into the matter. They want a clear explanation of whether a directive or a technical issue caused the problems.
