President Bola Tinubu had dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday at the Élysée Palace in Paris.
This meeting is part of the ongoing talks between Nigeria and France since Tinubu became president in 2023.
Bayo Onanuga, the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, shared news of the dinner in a post on X on Friday. He also posted photos of the two leaders together at the French presidential palace.
PREMIUM TIMES reports that this dinner took place when Tinubu was in France during his three-week annual leave in Europe.
He arrived in Paris on Monday after spending the first part of his leave in London.
According to Onanuga, the dinner showed the strong ties between Nigeria and France.
He wrote, “French President Emmanuel Macron received President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a private dinner Thursday night at the Élysée Palace, reflecting the enduring relationship between Nigeria and France and their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.”
In another post about the meeting, President Tinubu said his discussion with Macron shows both countries want to keep good relations and improve their partnership.
He also thanked the French president for his kind hospitality and friendship.
“It was a pleasure to share a private dinner with President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris. @EmmanuelMacron
“Our conversation reaffirmed the strong friendship between Nigeria and France, as well as our shared commitment to deepening cooperation and building a mutually beneficial partnership between our two nations,” he wrote.
Photos from the dinner showed Tinubu and Macron together at the Élysée Palace. One picture also featured Tinubu, Macron, and France’s First Lady, Brigitte Macron.
