Tobi Amusan showed her skills ahead of the 2026 Diamond League Final by winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Grand Prix Brescia in Italy on Sunday. She crossed the finish line in 12.56 seconds, winning despite facing a tough 1.7m/s headwind.
Amusan finished first, ahead of American hurdler Alaysha Johnson, who came in second at 12.62 seconds. Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent took third place with a time of 12.75 seconds.
Amusan’s win in Brescia happened just days after American hurdler and Olympic champion Masai Russell set a new world record at the Zurich Diamond League last Thursday. Russell ran an impressive 12.09 seconds, breaking Amusan’s previous record of 12.12 seconds at the Letzigrund Stadium.
Amusan had held the world record for four years after running 12.12 seconds in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon. She went on to win the final in 12.06 seconds, but that time did not count as a world record because of an excessive tailwind.
Both athletes will face each other again at the Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium, scheduled for September 4 to 5. Amusan is a three-time Diamond League champion, having won the title in 2021, 2022, and 2023. She will be looking to reclaim the crown this year.
