One week after scoring on his Ajax debut, Nigeria's Tolu Arokodare made his mark in the Eredivisie. He provided an assist as Ajax kicked off the new season with a 2-0 win over PEC Zwolle on Sunday, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.
Arokodare started the game on the bench. He came on in the 73rd minute, taking the place of Abdellah Ouazane.
The Nigerian striker quickly made an impact. He assisted Jorthy Mokio just three minutes after joining the game. Mokio finished the move to give Ajax the lead.
Ajax secured the win late in stoppage time when Julian Brandt scored to double their lead, assisted by Mika Godts.
Arokodare joined Ajax last month on a loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves are currently playing in the English Championship.
Last week, Arokodare started well at Ajax. He scored in his debut match during a 3-1 pre-season win over FC Volendam at the Kras Stadion.
He entered the match as a substitute in the 71st minute for Marcos Leonardo. He scored after taking advantage of a poor clearance inside the FC Volendam box.
The 25-year-old is eager to earn his first start in Ajax colors. The team will travel to Ireland to face Shelbourne on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa Conference League third qualifying round.
He is also looking forward to his home Eredivisie debut when Ajax hosts Heerenveen next Sunday.
Arokodare’s time at Wolves ended on a sour note. The club accused him of disrupting training while trying to leave.
The Nigerian denied the claims. He stated on social media: "Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards."
Arokodare moved to Wolves in a £24m deal from Genk in September 2025. He signed a four-year contract after scoring 31 league goals in 79 appearances for the Belgian club.
