Truck kills motorcyclist at Ilasa Bus Stop in Lagos

A motorcyclist was crushed to death by a tipper truck at Ilasa Bus Stop, heading towards Mile 2, Lagos State.

Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, shared this news in a statement on Thursday.

Oke-Osanyintolu said the accident happened at about 3:18 pm. It involved a tipper truck loaded with sand that had the number plate 19F 992FG and a motorcycle.

He mentioned that the agency's Eagle Response Team in Cappa was sent to the scene right after they got a distress call. They arrived in about 15 minutes.

The PS explained that initial investigations showed the tipper driver lost control and crashed into the motorcycle from behind.

He said, “Tragically, an adult male passenger on the motorcycle lost his life as a result of the collision.”

The statement added that LASEMA responders, along with the agency’s LRU paramedics, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials, and police officers, worked to manage the scene.

Oke-Osanyintolu noted, “The remains of the deceased were recovered, bagged with dignity by the Agency’s responders, and handed over to family members present at the scene in accordance with best practices.”

He said the tipper and motorcycle were taken off the road and moved to Ilasamaja Police Station for further investigation.

The PS confirmed that the operation was finished and normal traffic flow was restored in the area.

Oke-Osanyintolu expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. He urged drivers, especially those of heavy vehicles, to drive carefully and follow traffic rules.

“The Lagos State Government is dedicated to the safety of lives and property and will keep ensuring quick emergency response across the state,” he added.
